The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

Jeremiah 17:9-10

We have ways of doing things, but do we consider what is the fruit of those doings?

I know we consider the fruit of our broader doings, but do we look closely enough at the day-to-day smaller decisions, which all bear fruit?

Fruit comes in all sizes.

The passage says the heart is deceitful above all things. So, what if it tells us we are doing fine, when really we haven’t bored down into our decisions deeply enough to examine them and the fruit which grows from them. Is there an idiosyncrasy you have which is troubling others, that the Lord may not approve of?
