The Earth Is The Lord's. 275. Dec 17, 2020

The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. - Psalm 24:1

As we look around at all the corruption, poverty and wars, it's easy to believe that Satan has this world in his grasp.

Maybe it's a time to reflect on this verse, which puts our thoughts back into perspective.

The Lord made the earth and its fullness, and all that is therein. So why would it not be His?

The exotic food and beverages enriching the tables of the kings and queens of the world, even those who have no interest in the Lord? All made by Him. The tables and chairs they sit on and eat at? All the raw elements, right down to the atom were made by the Lord. The gold and jewellery adorning the palaces and those who abide in them? Yes. All made by the Lord.

The car you drive, the house you live in, the food you eat are all made by the Lord. Even the computer you work on, the iPhone or Samsung you use are made by the Lord. The seat you are now sitting on to read this, whether at home, on a train or bus to work, or as a passenger someone else's car. Everything is His.

He is the creator. He also made humankind to create. We are made in His image. Why do we think we are so wonderful, without acknowledging Him? Even our brains were made by Him. Our intelligence is His.

Every human being is subject to the makings of the Lord. The majority of us came from a womb, but even a test tube baby has God-given ingredients.

When God gave the earth to mankind, He retained ownership. Despite our titles of land — our deeds having been written out and sold to us by other humans — we're still only tenants in the Lord's domain.

All the improvements and industry are all His. "and the fulness thereof"

When we come to the realisation we have nothing to acknowledge as our own, we are suitably humble to crown Him King of our lives. Then we can repent of our mind-mightiness, of our pride in what we have developed, built or accomplished, and of how much we think we 'own'.

Many people think the world is theres but they are only following Satan. Satan made nothing in this world but trouble. So why do people worship him? He is simply a thief (John 10:10) wanting to destroy the things God has built, yet wants recognition as the light of all knowledge and wisdom. It sounds like some politicians, doesn't it?

At the Lord's command, even Satan will do what he is told.

When we consider how this intricate domain continually replenishes itself until such a time as the Lord closes it down, we have to accept, even more, the depth of His grace.

His love for us is astounding.

Today's prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for such a precious world. I have always known you made it, but I recognise your sovereignty more when I realise that nothing is mine.
