THE COVENANT HE WISHED HE HAD NOT MADE

“Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover. And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people. Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve. And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them. And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.”

Luke 22:1-5

Many times, people have not only entertained the idea of dancing with the devil, but some have entered into an agreement with him. Numerous rock stars and movie stars have testified to doing this, in an effort to achieve the fame or fortune they lusted after.

However, it is like a mouse making a deal with the Mafia and expecting to call the shots. It just will not happen!

When we enter into Satan’s territory of trading lies and deceit for money or power, it is not as easy walking out when we have had enough, as it was walking in. We leave when he says we can, and only the power of the blood of Jesus Christ can truly free us from that bitter leash.

Judas thought himself a master-dealer when he traded Jesus’ life for 30 pieces of Silver. He got into a deep deal with some ‘sons of belial’ who were the Mafia masquerading as priests, and thought his persuasive powers could deal with any situation should it arise. What he did not count on was Satan entering into him once he made up his traitorous mind. His will was taken over. This meant, that when he wanted to change his mind and renege on the deal, the realisation hit him that he was a puppet in his own body, and the torment commenced and lasted until he committed suicide.

Neither the priesthood Mafia nor their Father, Satan, were going to let him out of the ‘covenant’.

We should remember this next time we have thoughts and desires that are counter to the teachings of Christ, and think we can control the situation as we move forward through the various levels of deceit.
